GOAL 2: The learner will demonstrate the ability to understand world history. Based on State Standards, the following objectives will be met by teaching the areas of: Pre-history, the Birth of Civilization to 1000 BC; the Ancient Period to 500 AD; the Middle-Ages to 1400 AD; and the Age of Global Encounters (1400-1750).

GOAL 4: The learner will acquire an understanding of key economic principles in relation to individuals, institutions, and governments.
  1. The learner will demonstrate economic literacy (6.4: A)
    1. Identify how needs and wants change from childhood to old age and the impact of planning, spending, and saving.
    2. Demonstrate an awareness of the law of supply and demand.
    3. Identify goods and services provided by local, state, and national governments and how they are supported by taxes.
    4. Identify characteristics of basic economic systems such as: traditional (barter and trade) and market (capitalism).
  2. The learner will demonstrate an understanding of economics and society (6.4: B)
    1. Identify the many ways federal, state, and local governments raise funds to meet the need for public facilities and government services.
    2. Understand that meeting the needs and wants of a growing world population has a profound impact on the environment and economic growth.
    3. Describe how inventions and innovations have improved standards of living over the course of history.
